Rich Rod Declines Offer For Alabama's Head Coaching Job

Apparently Richie Rodriguez has declined the substantial offer made to him to become the next head coach at Bama. Does this surprise anyone out there in Tide land? Be honest with yourself, do you really still think the head coaching job at the University of Alabama holds the same prestige it once did? I'm sorry to say that it doesn't, and the sooner we recognize that fact and learn to live with it the better off we'll be.

Who wants or needs the kind of immediate pressure that is going to be placed squarely on the shoulders of whoever becomes our next coach? One guy has already basically said that it's not even worth a cool $50 million, and I can't blame him.

Our own past success and inability to accept anything but perfection next season is in fact preventing us from hiring a viable candidate that may actually be able to deliver that perfection or something close to it.

Ask yourself why someone like Rodriguez, who played at WV and now coaches there, would turn his back on his players and fans and just pick up and come to Alabama. Now ask yourself if you would want a guy with that kind of character, someone who shows no loyalty and only answers to the almighty dollar, to come to the University of Alabama. I know I wouldn't.

Anybody heard from Shula lately?
